Exploration Proposal
Hello Kitty is a theme I am passionate about, I have grown up by being surrounded my plush dolls and figurines of the Sanrio characters and I have developed a strong connection with them. I find Hello Kitty to be a very interesting cat and that she is still very popular today.
There are many different paths I would like to explore in relation to Hello Kitty. With so many different themes, designs and mediums (pencil drawings, fine lined drawings, and sculptures) involved in Hello Kitty, I’m left with so many different ways I can go. It would be fascinating to explore the influences Hello Kitty have over people.
For my artwork I intend to trial many material, I am interested in creating artwork with paper clay. I find paper clay an incredible material as it is so basic yet versatile in the way it can be moulded. I would also like to experiment with paint; the use of colour pencil will allow me to paint inspirations from Takashi Murakami’s work. I hope to use techniques such as heavy pressure layering and basic tonal layering, when using heavy pressure layering a relatively glossy and solid finish. I also intend to experiment with flickers and specks because I think this technique will push me out of my comfort zone and allow me to be a little more expressive. I
I intend to create a large Hello Kitty sculpture out of paper clay. The artists whose work I find inspirational are Takashi Murakami and Jeff Koons, they both create huge sculptures based on pop art.
